The idea for this lamp arises from the dialogue between vastly different materials. Rattan, with its wide weave that allows the light to be glimpsed as if through a jalousie, and a golden sheet, which reflects it. The light passes through these two materials and is held within it as in an architectural model; walls that slide, mirrors that reflect: a small architecture that houses light. Stripes, like a blind in the sun, give the idea of a facade, and suggest the motif of color in this luminous object. A classic ‘regimental’ stripe becomes a refined detail, poised between a sunblind and an impeccably knotted tie.
